dongjadong, 2025.

Mosi (fine rami), light infused strands, and found objects. Variable dimensions.

donjadong is a mixed media installation work composed of found objects, photographs, and traditional Korean patchwork (Jogakbo) made from Mosi fabric. Inspired by the symbolic meanings of wrapping, protection, and affection, incorporated warmth, colors, and images to reflect Park’s exploration of selfhood and ancestral roots in celebration of tradition and lineage. dongjadong is named after the neighborhood where Park’s grandmother once lived, since she had a great influence on the entire project. It is also based on Park’s faint memory of her clumsy hand sewing. It was unrefined but warm, paralleling a lot of traditional Jogakbo that was made by women, using the scraps of leftover fabrics in domestic settings. By tributing tradition and ancestry, dongjadong deposits my personal memories and family history rooted in horticulture.
